Your BIGGEST Reducing Asset – TIME

By

TIME.  When I was young and the weather in England prevented me from being outside and I had exhausted my attention with indoor pursuits I remember once telling my mother I was bored.  Her response was “Never say that as you are just wishing your life away. When you get older time gets faster, just remember this.”  I didn’t really get this when I was young……   Now I am older I smile and I appreciate the wisdom and truth behind her words, as it seems the opposite now, there is never enough time to get everything done!  Time really does seem to have got faster these days!  It’s funny isn’t it.  When we are very young time can seem to stretch out endlessly.  When we get into the working age, so many people sacrifice their time and even health, for accumulating assets and building wealth. Then, much later in life as it comes to an end many people would gladly swop all their wealth for one moment in time, one day of good health.  So make sure you are spending your time wisely and spending time on your health.

Have you noticed when you are out and talking to people how often the topic of TIME pops up.   How many times do you hear “I haven’t got enough time” or “I ran out of time.”  “I was too busy to fit this in” or occasionally, “Is that all the time is?”  Either way, too little or too much time, I believe most people don’t really get it that our TIME is finite.

If time was a tangible asset like money or gold, something we invested in and could touch or feel, perhaps measure on a set of scales, indicating if we spent it well or not, wouldn’t you look at it a bit differently?  You might even ask the question “Am I getting the best return on this investment?”  What if you tried this out for a week or so?  Imagine asking this every day. I reckon this could change your life forever.  Consider what your return might be.  Would you choose to live it, spend it wisely and towards healthy pursuits and make time for some fun and enjoyment each day?

You probably have goals, which are sometimes called “Dreams with Deadlines”, to aim for, but perhaps you would enjoy each day, savouring the journey along the way.  Perhaps you would get up each day and ask yourself “How can I be even better today than yesterday?” or “How can I make this day even more special than the one before?”  Would you stop living in the past, picking at the wounds or scabs from the past, worrying over them until they infect your heart?  Perhaps you might even stop “What If.. ’ing everything?” Living in the future, in events that haven’t even happened, running over and over again like a stuck record what might happen, looking at every worst case scenario and actually helping to create it by the very nature of your focus.   All this does is create fear, anxiety and stress as you cannot control what is happening by thinking like this.  So, practice changing the channel from the past or the future to the NOW.

Do you spend your day giving your power away, giving others the responsibility for your feelings, actions or even inactions?  If you do this and think that others have more influence on your feelings and actions than you, you are also diminishing your asset by living at effect.  Having reasons and excuses why things go wrong.  This is a too common way to live but doesn’t usually bring success or happiness or fulfilment to anyone.

So, if your asset of time (imagine it like shares or stocks) is reducing, how will you invest it to get the best return?  What will you do each day?   Would you perhaps take full responsibility for every moment and for how and who you show up as each day.   Perhaps you could speak your truth, maybe even learn to say no and put yourself first sometimes.

If you valued time in this manner could you accept that you are responsible for your happiness and everything that happens in your life? Would you realise that you can choose how to respond to people and events around you.  Imagine if you could live in the present, knowing you happen to Life and you can choose how to utilise this precious resource.  Accepting that people are just doing the best they can at the time, in THEIR time, not your time.  How could this impact your life?  Why wait until time has run out to forgive people?  Why not do it now?  Learn from your mistakes, accept who you are and move on. Imagine if living like this could give you enormous personal power, freedom and empowerment.   You might even truly enjoy the PRESENT (Your gift of life) and at the same time, empower others by being a shining example.  So make the most of your reducing asset.  Live each moment in life, savour it and know that by showing up as the best you can be you will impact and influence others around you and make their time here even more special.

Lastly, consider how you would you like your dash to represented.  You know, that one on the tombstone, that dash between the date you were born and the date you died.  That simple small dash that represents your entire life, your entire time spent here, and all that you represented.  What would you like to say about it on your last day here?
